Yoga for a shorter labour and more comfortable birth

The practical, simple techniques you lean yoga can shorten your labour and make the whole experience calmer and more comfortable. Comfortable birth? Yes, it really is possible!

Regular practice will help you to relax more easily, allowing your to find a calm and stillness in mind and body when the time comes for your baby to be born. Relaxing between contractions will help you to gather strength and energy to birth your baby. In class we'll cover useful positions to release tension and aid the smooth transition through labour. Simple, easy-to-learn and remember breathing practices are designed to release tension and relieve any painful sensations, helping your body to birth your baby.

Finding comfortable, but effective positions for the birth can ease the birth, making sure your muscles are active and making each contraction more effective, shortening your labour.

Yoga helps you to accept the way the birth progresses, to make decisions using the information you have, from moment to moment - even if it's not following your birthing plan. This freedom allows you to have the most positive birth experience that you can, on the way to meeting your baby.

I also teach Hypnobirthing, a course for mum and birth partner to learn the techniques of a comfortable, relaxed childbirth.

The breath is the intelligence of the body

TKV Desikachar

"My birth plan ended up almost completely out of the window, due to the induction bringing the contractions on so quickly and strongly, but the deep breathing we did in yoga (golden thread) was probably the most effective way to get through a contraction for most of the time."
